The 1982 FA Cup Final was contested by holders Tottenham Hostspur and second-division Queens Park Rangers. Spurs have finished a solid 4th in the First Division while QPR ended up 5th in the second division. As a result Spurs started the Cup Final as unbackable favourites but true to history the underdogs were not just at Wembley to make up the numbers.

For the second year in a row the final would end as a 1-1 draw after extra-time. It was a largely dull match with Spurs not being able to dominate as expected. Clive Allen, QPRs main strike weapon picked up a knock and was not firing on all cylinders and was replaced before full-time. The score was 0-0 at the end of 90 minutes but Spurs scored through the stylish Glenn Hoddle with just 10 minutes to go. Not to be outdone QPR struck back 5 minutes later when Terry Fenwick headed past Veteran keeper Ray Clemence who was playing his 4th FA Cup Final.
The replay was an evenly contested match with the lower division QPR again giving a good account of themselves. Many observers believe they were unlucky not to have won the trophy but it was Spurs who walked up the Wembley steps to take back the Cup they had won 12 months earlier.

It was an early penalty from England’s Glenn Hoddle that decided the contest. There was no question about the legitimacy of the penalty when Tony Currie brought down Spurs midfielder Graham Roberts in the box.

QPR believed they had equalised via Gary Micklewhite but the goal was controversially disallowed. Hoddle’s 6th minute goal was enough to earn Tottenham’s 7th win and maintain their incredible 100 percent record in FA Cup Finals.
