Spurs drop first points of the season
Tottenham hosted Manchester United with high hopes of continuing their perfect start to the new EPL season. And after in-form striker Jermain Defoe scored in the first minute it looked like a distinct possibility.
Defoe has been one the most impressive players in the League this season and he produced a spectacular overhead kick to steer the ball into the United goal. But Manchester United refused to panic and they set about dominating the match.
Veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs got them back on level terms from a brilliant free-kick. The Spurs keeper had no chance of saving his perfectly placed left foot shot. They took the lead on 41 minutes when Anderson steered home a loose ball through a crowded penalty area.
Spurs hopes were revived when Paul Scholes was sent off after 2 bookable offences but they failed to find an equaliser then went further behind when Wayne Rooney scored United’s 3rd goal.
Manchester United as they seem to do each year have clearly recovered from the customary slow start and are now flexing their muscles.
